A touch of the sublime, a sentimental reminder of my days in Japan, poor in pocket rich in wonderment. Not a natural traveller, I bumbled my way over to Hackuba a village in the Japanese Alps for the Winter Olympics in Nagano, I managed to get a job serving and translating for tourists in a traditional Sushi restaurant for an epic Sushi Chef Shochan. I was treated so well, enjoying delicious delicacies and authentic delights every day (which was so appreciated, because money was really tight). The sushi chef and restaurant is much revered in Japan. Shochan didn’t speak a word of English, but we understood each other perfectly.

Japan, beautiful and creative, is well known for its traditional crafts, including tea ceremonies, calligraphy and flower arranging. The country has a legacy of distinctive gardens, sculpture and poetry.
